Certified Deputy Sheriff
Starting Pay: $46,735.20 annually, ($21.30/hr plus holidays and benefits package)
*Pay is negotiable based on experience.
This position is an entry-to-advanced level law enforcement position. Deputies are responsible for protecting life and property within Stephens County. A deputy’s duties include enforcing state laws and county ordinances, responding to emergencies and calls for service, enforcing traffic regulations, conducting investigations, and providing an officer presence within the county to maintain order. Law enforcement is an ever-changing environment and requires an individual who is motivated and capable of good judgment and discretion in high-stress or unusual situations.

Requirements:
– Must have or complete the Peace Officers’ Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic Law Enforcement Training
– Minimum 30 hours of P.O.S.T.-approved training annually
– Willing to work days, nights, weekends and holidays
– High School Diploma/GED
– Minimum 18 years of age
– Must have and maintain a valid United States Driver’s License (Class C), a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR), and the ability and willingness to drive a county vehicle; if assigned job duties require the use of a vehicle
Jailer
Starting Pay: $39,168.00 annually, ($17/hr including holidays and benefits package)
*Pay is negotiable based on experience.
The jailer’s job consists of specialized work in maintaining security and enforcing order and discipline amongst the inmate population. Responsibilities include conducting security rounds to prevent escape, searches, prisoner escorts, conducting headcounts, and other necessary tasks for day-to-day operations. The jailer may work in specialized units, such as Booking, Inmate Services, or Litter Detail. They may also supervise inmates assigned to specific details, such as laundry, kitchen, or outside details.

Requirements:
– Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Certification as a Jailer within 6 months from date of hire
– Willing to work days, nights, weekends and holidays
– High School Diploma/GED
– Minimum 18 years of age
– Must have and maintain a valid United States Driver’s License (Class C), a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR), and the ability and willingness to drive a county vehicle; if assigned job duties require the use of a vehicle
