Class Begins: at 0830 -1730

The class will physically meet on weeks 1 & 3

Course Description: 
This course is designed for the public safety officer who instructs in performance-oriented training and is responsible for lesson plan development. Topics range from instructor liability and lesson plan design to testing and evaluation of learning. Each student writes an original lesson plan on an approved public safety topic during the course and develops the presentation skills necessary to deliver that lesson.

Prerequisites: 
Three years of public safety experience. Students must not have any active POST Investigations or be in probationary status with POST.

Special Notes: Each agency is limited to two applicants per course offering. Applications do not roll over to the next available date. Applicants not accepted must apply for another course date. Training officers, please provide a current email address for all registered students. Students will receive an email at least one week prior to the start of the course with instructions. Printed materials will not be issued in class, and students will be provided the materials on day one. Seats are limited to 12, and no walk-ins will be permitted.

There is a one-week break between weeks 1 and 2. During this break, students will be required to prepare a written lesson plan. The program meets the training criteria established by the Georgia POST Council for certification as a General Instructor.

Students are required to bring a laptop with Microsoft Office 2007 or newer software. The dress code is business attire or a departmental-issued uniform. Shorts, jeans, and T-shirts are prohibited.

To include:
Equipment Familiarization, Setup, Carbine Mechanics, Positional Work, Mechanics of Movement, Malfunctions, Weapon Mounted Light Utilization, Handheld Light Employment with Carbine, Principles of light use, Use of cover / Using vehicles as cover, and more…

 **Vehicle Ballistics Demo - An in depth look at the ballistic capabilities of a vehicle, in both an offensive and defensive context. **

Students will need:
Duty gear/tactical load-out

department. This course is open to any certified law enforcement officer. To successfully complete the course students must achieve a minimum score of at least 70% on a written examination.

Topics for discussion will include:
• Developing an FTO Program
• Motivation
• Case Studies
• Legal Issues
• Counseling & Instructional Techniques

Special Notes:
The course is open to any certified law enforcement officer. To apply for certification, you must have three years of law enforcement experience (two years with present department).
