Welcome to the Stephens County Sheriff's Office Training Unit! We offer a wide variety of 2 hour to 16 hour inservice training classes, as well as specialty 16 to 40 hour classes through the Georgia Peace Officer Training and Standards Council. The Training Unit is responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and teaching inservice training for the Sheriff's Office. They also schedule Deputies for off-site training at regional police academies and the Georgia Public Safety Training Center, manage and operate the firing range, oversee the hiring process, create and maintain lesson plans, and organize and teach community programs such as the Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy.
Lt. Ed Wilson heads the Training Unit for the Stephens County Sheriff's Office. He joined the Office in 2009 after serving 14 years with the University of Georgia Police Department in a variety of positions including as a shift sergeant and instructor; and serving 5 years with the Barrow County Sheriff's Office as their Training Sergeant. He is a POST certified General Instructor, Firearms and Shotgun Instructor, RADAR and Laser Instructor, SFST Instructor, TASER Instructor, and Defensive Tactics Instructor.
